MinnesotaCare

What is MNCare?
MNCare is a subsidized health care program for people who live in Minnesota and do not have access to health insurance. MNCare was created in 1992 by the Minnesota Legislature and is administered by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. It is funded by member premiums, the State of Minnesota, and a tax on health care providers.

·         Members pay a monthly premium based on income and family size

·         Coverage includes medical care, dental care, mental health, and chemical dependency services

·         Applicants must meet income, asset and program guidelines to qualify.

·         Health care coverage begins the month after you pay your first premium.

Eligibility
To qualify, you must have a Social Security number, live in Minnesota, be a U.S. citizen, and not have other health care insurance now or in the last four months, including Medicare.

Asset Limits
There is no asset limit for pregnant women and children under 21. For all others, the asset limit is $10,000 for a family of one and $20,000 for a family of two or more.

MNCare Cost
All MinnesotaCare members pay a monthly premium. This premium must be paid to keep the health care coverage. Premiums are based on on household size, income, and number of people covered.

Premiums can be paid online, by mail, in person, or through an automatic withdrawal plan from a savings or checking account.

Applying for MNCare
You can fill out an application online, or have an application sent to you by mail. A representative will review your application and determine eligibility and contact you within 30-45 days.
